Effects of Drugs on Intestinal Motility Using Frog Esophagus Model

1. Aim

To interpret effects of drugs on intestinal motility using frog esophagus model using an approved teaching record or simulation and report the supported finding. Syllabus position: Second practical list 2. Actual result must be entered in the student record.

2. Requirements

Instructor-approved video, chart, or de-identified dataset; its protocol and ethics record; labelled control and test conditions; observation sheet; graphing or calculation aid where appropriate; and supervisor review. Actual species or tissue source, doses, concentrations, timing, conditions, and acceptance criteria are to be recorded from the approved protocol or instructor-supplied dataset in the student record.

3. Theory

The syllabus names a frog esophagus model for studying movement-related responses. The exact preparation, movement measure, and tissue viability criteria must be supplied by the institution. A simulated trace may show changes in frequency, amplitude, or tone, but these are distinct measurements and should not be combined.

4. Procedure

  1. Confirm the syllabus entry, chosen teaching record, authorization, and outcome definition with the instructor.
  2. Record the source identifier, species or tissue, controls, time points, units, and missing details without inferring them.
  3. Read an instructor-approved video or trace with baseline and post-exposure periods. Define the response variable from the method, count or measure only valid segments, and compare with the control.
  4. Check baseline quality, replicate or control behavior, and any welfare or validity note before calculation.
  5. Perform only the analysis supported by the supplied method and mark unresolved values Record here.
  6. State the result, limitations, and whether the source was a simulation, video, or historical approved record.

Assumed values or observations for practice only: An assumed trace has an assumed 4 waves before a test marker and an assumed 3 waves after it over equal assumed intervals. These invented counts do not establish a drug effect. Every invented input and output is assumed, not a live-animal procedure or actual result.

6. Output or final result

Submit a labelled baseline and response trace with a conditional interpretation. Actual experimental outcome: Record here.

Teaching-lab safety: Teaching-lab supervision is required. Any live-animal or isolated-tissue work requires institutional ethical authorization and trained personnel. Students should analyze approved records or simulations here; no dose or animal procedure is specified.

This page is a supervised-activity guide; it does not report a completed case.
