NIPER JEE Exam Guide

NIPER JEE, the NIPER Joint Entrance Examination, is the common entrance examination for admission to the master's programmes of the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs), the institutes of national importance for pharmaceutical education and research in India. This page gives the NIPER JEE basics in one place: what the exam is, who conducts it, the exam pattern, the eligibility criteria and the syllabus areas, exactly as the official brochure publishes them. All exam facts on this page are as per the NIPER JEE 2026 Information Brochure (Master's Programmes), organized by NIPER Mohali for the academic year 2026-27. This page covers the master's programmes. Admission to Ph.D. programmes runs through a separate brochure of the same JEE cycle.

What is NIPER JEE

NIPER JEE is a single common entrance examination for admission to the master's programmes offered by the seven NIPERs: NIPER Ahmedabad, NIPER Guwahati, NIPER Hajipur, NIPER Hyderabad, NIPER Kolkata, NIPER Mohali (S.A.S. Nagar) and NIPER Raebareli. The NIPERs are Institutes of National Importance established by the Government of India through Acts of Parliament, under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, for higher education and research in pharmaceutical sciences.

One entrance examination is held for all the master's programmes: M.S. (Pharm.), M.Pharm., M.Tech. (Pharm.) and MBA (Pharm.). Admission to the M.S. (Pharm.), M.Pharm. and M.Tech. programmes is through counselling based on merit in the written examination. Admission to the MBA (Pharm.) programme is based on combined merit in the common entrance exam (85 percent) and group discussion and personal interview (15 percent).

In the 2026 cycle, the computer based test was held on 13 June 2026. The dates and the organizing institute are announced with the brochure of each cycle, so always read the current cycle brochure before applying.

Who conducts NIPER JEE

NIPER JEE is organized by one of the NIPERs for each cycle, through the NIPER JEE Office of that institute. NIPER JEE 2026 was organized by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali (S.A.S. Nagar), and the NIPER JEE Office at NIPER Mohali coordinated the examination. The official website of the 2026 cycle, as printed in the brochure, is niper.gov.in/niperjee2026, and the results of NIPER JEE 2026 were declared on the official website of NIPER Mohali.

Exam pattern

As per the NIPER JEE 2026 Information Brochure (sections 3.1, 3.8 and 3.10):

Particular Details
Mode of examination Computer Based Test (CBT). One single common question paper for the M.S. (Pharm.), M.Pharm., M.Tech. and MBA (Pharm.) programmes
Type of questions Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Number of questions 200
Sections Two sections, Section A and Section B
Section A 80 questions from General English, Aptitude, Reasoning, General Knowledge, etc.
Section B 120 questions mainly from the syllabi of B. Pharm.
Duration 150 minutes, without any break
Marks for each question 0.5 mark
Total marks 100
Negative marking 0.125 mark is deducted from the total score for each incorrect answer
Unanswered questions No marks are given or deducted

If a question is dropped due to some technical error, full marks are given to all the candidates, whether the question was attempted or not.

A word of caution: pages written for older cycles still describe a two hour paper and a different marking scheme. The NIPER JEE 2026 brochure fixes the duration at 150 minutes and the marking at 0.5 mark per question with 0.125 mark deducted for a wrong answer, and this page follows the 2026 brochure. Check the brochure of your own cycle for the pattern that applies to you.

Not every programme is offered by every NIPER. The brochure lists the programmes offered by each institute and the seat availability for the cycle, and the exact seat matrix is displayed on the NIPER JEE website before counselling.

Syllabus

The NIPER JEE brochure does not publish a topic wise syllabus list. What the official brochure states is the composition of the paper, and that is the complete official position:

There is no official subject wise or topic wise split of the 120 questions of Section B. Any website that prints a fixed number of questions for individual subjects is giving its own estimate, not an official syllabus. For preparation, treat the whole B.Pharm. syllabus as the syllabus of Section B, and the four areas named above as the syllabus of Section A.
